For more then a decade, he has lived with the lie that he had HIV. Forced to withdraw from boxing, he had taken on a new life. Then, Ten years later he finds out the test was wrong. All along he has been HIV Negative.

Man talk about fuck ups...
:bfuck:

He still tested positive for STUPIDITY.

10 years he waited to have another test run to see if the first one was wrong? Man, where was this doof when I selling swampland?

I bet Don King was the one who administered the test and gave him the results, and then charged him $450,000 for it.

If I was tested positive for something I would only do another test if there was a different one available. Other then that I probably wouldn't get another one done. The only other time I might get the same test done is if I tested negative and still had symptoms for it, then I would do another in a month. Some premature viruses don't show in test for a period of time. hepatitis is a perfect example of that. If you think you might have it then it is best to do the first test then do another in a month. I read somewhere that hepatitis kills more then aids, which you wont find many people talking about that. Fortunately there is more going on as far as a cure and we can expect something within the next couple of decades. If they cant cure it at least they can slow it down and mask symptoms.

Jack, I can tell you from firsthand experience with Thomas that it is an absolute MUST to NOT blindly accept the findings of a test, based only on that test result alone. Even if there is no other testing available, you have the test admistered again, by another source, to ensure the accuracy of the first one. The test can be 100% accurate, but that is only IF the testing procedure was followed correctly, hence the need for another test.

Then again Jack, both of us may be missing the boat on this.

Anyway, back to Tommy, there is a lot more to this story. I have read that the virus can go dormant and disappear from testing, only to reappear in later tests. Tommy may very well have been "misdiagnosed" as he claims, or maybe he DOES have it, and it is not showing up on tests at this time.

This next part regarding Tommy is more or less for Juggs, as I think he is probably the only one that may or may not be interested in what else I have found:

The person that originally found the test positive for Morrison, Marc Ratner, was the chairman of the Nevada Boxing commission in 1996, and he maintains that Tommy tested positive, and the test was administered correctly. Ten years pass, and all of the sudden, he tests negative after being tested in Arizona that was overseen by the Arizona State Boxing Commission. Do a little checking on the ASBC, and you will find that they have been known to be a little (sometimes quite a bit) short of being trustworthy.

Now, that in itself may not be much of a deal, but this next part is. The fight is going to take place WHERE? West Virginia? Why West Virginia? Well, this could be just a strange coincidence, but it seems that West Virginia does not have mandatory blood testing from boxers. The boxer can submit a blood test result from another state, and be confirmed to fight in WVA that way. And the results of the new blood test came from.............you guessed it, Arizona.

I just put that out there for Juggs to be bemused with. Juggs, I am not saying this may be a tainted test result, but at the time my opinion of professional boxing is that the collective integrity of the sport leaves more than a little to be desired.

Damn, I am bored here at work this morning.

Do they not let you box for having HIV? What are some of the other sports that are strict about it (I know basketball is not one of them)?

In professional boxing, fighters who test positive for HIV are no longer allowed to fight in a professional, sanctioned match. When a fighter tests positive (my understanding of this is that the test must done in the presence of an official representing a professional boxing commission) his boxing license is suspended and he can no longer box professionally.

There have been some cases of fighters who had tested postive for HIV at one time, lost their professional license, and then re-tested negative at a later time and had their license re-instated.

I just put that out there to show that Tommy Morrison is not the first boxer to be allowed back in a professional ring after a negative HIV test that followed a previous positive one.
