Turn of sound downloads:

Use notepad and add the following in bold(use the one appropriate).
Then save it as autoexec.cfg in the games cfg folder.
i.e. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\your_user_name\team fortress 2\tf\cfg

cl_downloadfilter "nosounds" block sounds only
cl_downloadfilter "none" block all
cl_downloadfilter "all" default

This also works for DoD:s & CS:s

Not trying to hijack your thread but I thought this would be a cool place for everyone to throw in tidbits. One place that always comes to mind when I think of game tweaking would be Tweakguides.com. I have not read this one much but since they have one, I figure it would be a good place to go for those advanced tweak heads out there.

Other start parameters:
-heapsize [Kilobytes] (2GB use 524288)
-dxlevel [version] (70, 80, 81, 90, 95)
-refresh [Hz]
